Firstly, RED DWARF is coming back!… and by the looks of things an ARG has been created to promote it. More info from Contagious in their article.
The first site or the rabbit hole into this is http://www.listerscominghome.co.uk/. A Nicley designed postcard with a link to a communications patch and another website http://www.scanningjupiter.co.uk/
The patch is a PDF doc with instructions on how to useĀ what looks like a webcam linked with Papervision technology (I don’t have a webcam here, so i can’t check!). After looking through the message section of the site a recorded message from Kryton pops up. You are then asked to enter your details to receive updates and get the code to access the ships computers.
All seems ok so far… as this was quite a popular series I am guessing the TINAG (This is not a game) rule for ARGs has not been followed so rigourously. On the contact page of the second site you can link off to the Red Dwarf page, plus site three http://www.spacecorpsdirective98247.co.uk/ is ‘Dave’ branded. One thing with the best ARGs has always been to avoid portraying it as a game, as this can reduce the impact of the immersive experience. Making the player feel part of the game, they are their own character in the game is the whole appeal. I am not saying people think its real at all… but if we pretend it is, then the experience is far more immersive for the user.
Lets see how this develops… time to enter my code…
*** UPDATE***
Logged into the computer (below), its all very overt… not sure I am feeling this one sorry. Its a nice idea but its not really an ARG.
