I am sure a similar thing happened when Facebook started to peak, or even when blogging first started, but Twitter is getting a lot of flack. Is it a case of people generally not knowing what it is, what it should be used for? Is it in the name or character limit? Is it just a case of not understanding it?
So what is Twiiter, a the simplest level it is a micro-blogging platform. Limited to 140 characters meaning that posts have to be short, sweet and to the point. Many people see it in a similar light to the Facebook status message… ‘Yey my birthday in 2 days’ or ‘ Having a brilliant day’ or ‘What a night last night’. There are a sh** load of ‘Tweets’ like that… but what about the people using it in a constructive way. Posting interesting articles and breaking news (Like the recent Hudson river plane crash first covered on Twitter). Is this not just another communication tool?
Used in the right way Twitter can be useful firing short bursts of information across the globe in seconds. For instance every post I blog gets automatically posted to my Twitter account… Allowing my followers to see I have a new blog post. It’s not just a mini status updater its a message burst to your peers or friends.
We live in a generation where society wants everything now, new and first, Twitter is fulfilling a need that is a result of this. We want it now! Twitter can be good but its like everything… it depends how you use it.
