I have now reached level 30 on ‘SpyMaster‘ and it seems to have finished… well kind of. It is still in beta so I imagine the full game will be an endless drama of madness and experience points. Although fun (at times) and this game did turn into an addiction I think I should stay clear of the full version when released.

Although all of my ‘SpyMaster‘ Twitter followers will now know my ‘Attack’ and ‘Defence’ sums I have a screenshot below.

Time to retire from virtual spy life.

Now one that i am proud of. For one of my clients 505 games, we came up with an idea to tie in Twitter and the hard-core fans of ArmA. We were asked to come up with an idea to engage the communities. On the 20th May a special press event was held to showcase ArmA II. We invited fans of the first game to post @ replies to us between Midday and 3pm asking us questions about the new game.

Every time we refreshed the page another list of @ArmA2PC questions came in, it was awesome!

As well as the questions we posted pics via ‘Twitpic‘ so users could see what was happening. We had also invited down to the event a number of ArmA communities.

I must say this did work really well, great community that are really passionate about the game. Some more interesting activity planned with Twitter too, keep watching!

ARMA II SHOWCASE TO RECEIVE LIVE TWITTER UPDATES

505 Games and Bohemia Interactive have ensured that all ArmA II fans awaiting updates on the game won’t miss a thing from the upcoming UK showcase and demonstration sessions in London by setting up a dedicated Twitter feed for the event. As one of the first gaming companies to use Twitter in this way, 505 Games has invited members of the ArmA II online fansite community to the press day on Wednesday 20th May, where they will be able to share new information with their fellow fans via Twitter as they are announced on @ArmA2PC.

“The ArmA series quite simply would not be what it is without the passion and commitment that our community so clearly shows,” commented Mark Allen, European Consumer Communications Manager for 505 Games. “Communicating directly with the ArmA fans has always been high on our agenda and we’re glad to be able to utilise new forums, such as Twitter, to help us communicate to our base.”

In addition to tracking developments as they happen, followers of the ArmA II Twitter feed will be able to post their own questions to the development team during the press day. These will be shared online and will be searchable using the tag #ArmA2Event. Fans of the game will do well to keep a close eye on the feed after the event and in the weeks leading up to release, as new information will be regularly posted there first, along with special competitions and the feed will act as a hub for the dedicated ArmA community.

As ever, Bohemia Interactive rely on player feedback, and the Twitter feed will act as a vital source for recommendations, impressions and reviews from the community after the game has launched.

New web game that uses Twitter… I love Twitter and now SpyMaster. You can build up your ‘Spy Ring’ by finding other ‘SpyMasters’ on Twitter, get them to follow you and then equip them with weapons to aid you in assassinations.

I did have to turn off the spam like notifications that were posted to my Twitter as it got a little much! Not worth the extra 8% unfortunately!

You can only join by getting referred by a ‘SpyMaster’, so search them out on Twitter and ask for an invite. As its boosts their ‘Attack’ and ‘Defence’ rating most are accommodating… Nice and viral aye?

I do warn you all, it is highly addictive!

As I have said a number of times, I like Twitter… if used in the right way it can be a great micro-blogging tool facilitating information spread and coversation between followers/friends… but I have to agree some of the things users ‘Tweet’ about should probably be kept to themselves. I imagine this is following on from Real Life Facebook, this video illustrates what may happen if you voiced your ‘Tweets’.

Now a quick RANT about the use of Twitter as a communication tool with your customers.

A friend of mine posted a Tweet about an company they were trying to reach on the phone all day, basically complaining about the service. Within 5 mins a phone call from the head of customer services who asked them to remove the Tweet… not addressing the issue but asking for the comment to be taken down. This equals bad customer relations in my book. Plus this will just facilitate a backlash and further dissatisfaction.

This time an example of effective Twitter use… A colleague posted a Tweet about a service “Having a nightmare with X”… again within 5 mins a phone call, but this company wanted to address the main reason why they posted the frustrated comment in the first place. Listening to your customers and responding to constructive comments is a clear way of helping to build a solid relationship long term. No service will ever hit 100% customer satisfaction all of the time, taking onboard the comments and trying to fix the situation is a sure fire way of keeping them happy.

That’s what community marketing is all about… engage and conversation.
